Many people are surprised to find that problems like incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction are common. In fact, about 25 percent of all adults suffer from one or more of these conditions during their lifetime. There's really no need to feel embarrassed or hopeless. With the appropriate medical assistance, there's a very good chance that any of these situations can either be improved or cured. This treatment program includes state-of-the-art therapy that works in conjunction with medicinal and/or surgical intervention. While not a replacement for surgery or medication, the urinary and fecal continence and pelvic floor dysfunction program offers a safe and inexpensive alternative. Pregnancy Back Care Program Back pain during pregnancy is so common that 40% to 60% of all pregnant women experience it. Low back pain and other musculoskeletal problems that occur during pregnancy are usually readily treatable with physical therapy. Safe modalities such as massage, superficial moist heat, and ice are used during pregnancy. Pain is often easily eliminated with flexibility and strengthening exercises, posture education, and body mechanics training. Urinary IncontinenceStress incontinence, the most common form of incontinence is leakage during normal activities, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising, which may increase abdominal pressure. Urge incontinence is also very common, occurring when the patient feels a strong need to urinate, even though the bladder may only contain a small amount of urine (and you often can't get to the bathroom in time). Treatments include guidelines to reduce bladder irritability, techniques in bladder re-training, an individualized exercise program for strengthening abdominal and pelvic musculature and recommendations on an aerobic exercise program. Pelvic floor muscle training is especially important and includes biofeedback training, electrical stimulation and/or vaginal cones. Biofeedback training is a behavioral technique that utilizes visual and auditory signals to measure the patient's ability to perform a muscle contraction and then to relax the same muscle. Displayed on a computer screen, the patient is able to work toward desired goals, leading to greater control of her pelvic floor muscles. Other muscles and body processes may be monitored concurrently. Osteoporosis Exercise ProgramAs an adjunct to medical management, patients undergo complete musculoskeletal evaluation. An individualized program of pain management, treatment techniques, and self-care strategies are implemented. Weight bearing exercises are an integral part of the program. Patients are taught safe body mechanics to avoid forward bending and twisting, which may cause vertebral fractures. Wolf's Law states that form follows function. It is important to create a positive environment for improved bone density.
